“Worldly wisdom teaches that it is better for reputation to fail conventionally than to succeed unconventionally,” John Maynard Keynes famously stated. He also said, “The difficulty lies, not in the new ideas, but in escaping from the old ones, which ramify… into every corner of our minds.” Convening with colleagues, peers and partners in informative, private conversations can allow investors to escape old thinking and let new ideas ramify into your minds. The Unconvention™ exists to answer: “How can we succeed together unconventionally?”
Day of collaborative conversations centered on a theme or topic important to institutional investors. The program will consist of a series of breakout discussion sessions, each focused on a sub-topic related to the theme. Various participants will present information or ideas to inspire conversation, and discussions will emphasize analyzing issues from unconventional perspectives or generating unconventional ideas. Asset managers and service providers will contribute, to find common ground and share thoughtful ideas and relevant information. Conversations will be private and off-the-record.
2017 Theme: The Art of Dealing
Few predicted that Donald Trump – real estate developer, The Art of the Deal author, reality TV star and Twitter master – would become U.S. President, and then act so quickly to execute his agenda. Such a rapid and continuously evolving transition to an unanticipated new reality has, among other things, catalyzed investor uncertainty. The reality is, change brings uncertainty, but it also brings opportunity. At The Unconvention™ – The Art of Dealing we will tackle the most vexing question investors face today: What is the art of dealing with the reality, uncertainty and opportunity of the Trump Presidency?
